Worship | Westminster Abbey - London, UK

2018

We worked closely with all the key stakeholders at Westminster Abbey to ensure that the seating solution we provided, delivered all the functionality and features required. From the Dean and Chapter, to the Visitor Experience Team, from the porters to the Events and Marketing Team and the incredible conservation team responsible for preserving and protecting this UNESCO World Heritage Site the input we received from the Abbey’s team was invaluable in allowing us to design a bespoke chair that met each of the quality and design requirements.

The oak used in the seats was stained to match existing timber in the Abbey, the seat backs were laser engraved with the Abbey crest and the special ‘double-capacity’ transport dollies were supplied with hard-wearing covers embroidered with the Abbey crest.

Glides were made with synthetic material rather than natural to protect against damage from insects and rubber bumpers were fitted to the chair frames to minimise noise when linked on the centuries-old stone floor. Each chair is also equipped with a writeable display panel, elegantly counter-sunk into the backrest which can be configured to display seat numbering, text or the Abbey crest.

The result was a unique chair for this once in a generation project which was a privilege to deliver. Please see our chosen Manufacturer video https://youtu.be/UiuKPGuuqv0?si=Wrog2cZbVn_s2nBH
